WordPress.com is a great resource for building your own website relatively easily. It has its limitations as most tools do, but you can upgrade to different plans to get more features if you need them. However, I’ve found that the base/Personal plan (that currently costs about $50/year) provides excellent value, and you can usually find a workaround if you encounter a design obstacle. The support has also gotten quite good. This memoir website is built on WordPress.com.
There’s a learning curve but there are plenty of free courses and learning aids available, including on the WordPress.com website itself. What I particularly like about WordPress.com is that your site will never go away even if you stop paying. So if you have a change of fortune and can’t pay, your site will still be viewable but your pages will have advertising added.
